The End of A Draft Is the Beginning
A finished work is the smallest most visible part of an iceberg of creation
We’re almost done with this year and I’m almost done with a book I’m writing.
Hello readers and welcome to new members, thank you for signing up, you’re just in time to see the birth of the first of two novels, and a series of essays, short fiction, and poetry tied to both the past and future.
For a few essays, here are links:
My anti-rules of writing, what myths tell us about the price of the future, the reality of perfection, an epic story about the making of film ‘The Godfather’, and a non-technical essay about Leonardo Da Vinci, William Blake, photos, movies, and AI art.
Earlier subs saw 15 days straight of chapters being created daily, not long after “From The Future” was started.
I still write a chapter a day but a master links page for all of “HRVST” is less stress.
Chapters 15 to 30 and the epilogue will be posted (on substack) but not emailed.
Once done, all 120+ chapters* for “Book #2”, will be edited, and prepped for electronic and printed versions. There’s a personal backstory for why and how this book came to life but I won’t crowd your mailboxes with it.
Each chapter’s format is: past (history/myth)+ music + future (story).
Below , “Chapters” 15 to 20, along with musical complements that helped inspire it.
Chapter 15: Moving Past Uncertainty Has A Heavy Price
Chapter 16: The Answers To Changes of Fortune Do Not Exist, They Are Created
Chapter 17: Hope Does Not Equal Hubris
Chapter 18: First Has Meaning If There Is Next
Chapter 19: Honour and Recognition in the Shadow of Complete Darkness
Chapter 20: The Long Cold Hours
10 chapters, over about 10 days, left to go.
(*There were 3 other “30 day sprints” that became Parts 1 through 3 of “Book #2”.)
The next email to you (essay, story, poem) is coming in about 24 hours, give or take.
I’m into history & the future, don’t hesitate to send an idea, maybe I can write about it.
Keep on moving Ed!
Great work ER and inspiring!!
